Promoting Safeguarding and Wellbeing at Montacute School

There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our pupils. We have clear safeguarding protocols and all staff are trained in this area. Parents and carers will always be informed if there is a concern, however small that concern might seem. Sometimes we might need to ask parents or carers to help us find an explanation for something that we do not understand. We must forward any cases where we are unable to rule out possible abuse to social services.

Our full Safeguarding Policy is available in the About Us Section / Statutory Policies. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Tracey Smith.

We make sure we check new staff, students and volunteers to ensure they have a clear record. We have safety measures in place for when we have other visitors in school. However, we also strive to be a friendly and happy place.

We endeavour to make sure our school site is as safe as possible, and that all our activities within it and within the community around us are planned to be as safe as we can make them. We want to be ambitious in the things we do – but we will always plan them carefully.

We know that many of our pupils must have their needs well understood in order to keep them safe. Our Speech and Language Therapist helps us to devise eating and drinking plans where needed. Our Nurses make sure care plans are in place and also train staff in manual handling. Our Behaviour Lead supports us in writing individual Positive Behaviour Plans, which help staff to have a consistent and safe approach to supporting our pupils. We rely on the knowledge that parents and carers have about their child to help us get these plans right, and we are keen to share any new information between us that might help.
