How we breathe - Operation Ouch.

In Science we are looking at the respiratory system. Please find below a video from CBBC to introduce the respiratory system. There is also a sheet of ideas to develop breathing skills through blowing activities, these can have a therapeutic effect on speech and feeding development.
Our Maths work this term is on measure. In the first half term we are looking at height and length. Activities which can be tried at home include measuring common items around the house. You don't need to use a ruler, you can measure in Lego bricks, tins, the only criteria is that the measure needs to be the same size. You could also measure members of the household.
We love to read in Corfe class. We use the website https://www.getepic.com/ to find books. For example Diary of a Wimpy Kid is available to read online for free.
Another wonderful reading site is Storyline Online https://storylineonline.net/ where favourite stories are read aloud by some famous faces.

Our students all have a membership to Calibre audio, Play Calibre Audiobooks, which is a library of audio books. The books can be streamed directly from the website, via an app, we use Dolphin Easy Reader on our class iPads or requested via a memory stick. There is a wide variety of children's books available, including our class text, The Boy at the Back of the Class.
Spring Term 2023, Home and Away
This term, we are focusing on a class text, The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q Raúf to explore our theme of Home and Away. This text has been chosen for its contemporary plotline, it is the story of refugee coming to a new country, and also one that allows us to explore different cultures and experiences.
Please find attached a number of activities to share with your child at home. I will add the full symbol instructions on Tuesday morning. At the heart of our curriculum is communication, reading and community, so reading a book with your child or exploring your local area would be wonderful ways to continue our ethos at home. In the morning I will add a video to Dojo to welcome students to the day and as a means of keeping in contact with you all.

Having fled from war in their troubled homeland, a boy and his family are living in poverty in a strange country. Food is scarce, so when the boy's father brings home a map instead of bread for supper, at first the boy is furious.

Corfe class, please have a look at this story, can you draw a map of your bedroom, then your house, then your street, how big can you go? "Me on the Map" was written by Joan Sweeney and illustrated by Annette Cable. This version of the book was published by Crown Publishing, Inc. in 1996.
