Spring 2023
Welcome to the Spring Term!
Our theme this term is Location, Location , Location.
In the sixth form we are going to be thinking about locations around the school that we can help improve, using our creative and practical skills. Our life skills room needs a 'Changing Rooms' style makeover, so we will be visiting the local DIY shop and finding out a bit about decorating. We would like to transform our cabin into a peaceful woodland retreat, a space to relax, feel calm and practice some mindfulness. Our young adults in Sandbanks will be thinking about what colours, textures and sounds help them feel relaxed.
In Branksome we will be studying the text Stig of the Dump by Clive King. This text explores the relationship between two characters who live in very different kinds of homes. We will be thinking about how the characters feel and relating this to our own Zones of Emotion.
Alongside all of this we will be continuing our Enterprise work creating gifts for home and garden.
In Sandbanks the young people will be developing their practical home skills, including some creative decorating techniques as well as continuing to refine their domestic and homemaking skills.
See the overview below for more detail and curriculum coverage.
Spring Term Overview
An important element of the sixth form curriculum is our focus on preparation for adulthood.
Our curriculum planning sits under the four headings of Employment (World of Work), Community Inclusion, Health and Independent Living. Our focus is on ensuring all our young people have the tools and skills they need to transition into adult services and be able to participate in meaningful work and further learning.
