Montacute School is a day Special School
Academy for children with severe, complex or profound and multiple learning
difficulties. Some have additional sensory impairment, physical difficulties or
medical needs, and others are identified as being within the autistic spectrum.
The school provides for 75 pupils between
the ages of 2 and 19 years.
Montacute is situated in the Unitary
Authority of Poole which retains the responsibility for admissions, although the
school's catchment area also includes the neighbouring Authorities of Dorset and
The school received an OFSTED report in
October 2010 when Montacute was described as 'outstanding ' with ‘excellent’
quality of teaching. The inspectors found Montacute School to be Outstanding in
every category. The school has Healthy Schools status and recent awards include
Artsmark and Sportsmark. Montacute is the lead school, with Broadstone First
School, of the Poole Teaching School Alliance and as such provides support,
brokers training and is involved in Initial Teacher Training across the
Borough. Montacute is part of the Comenius School Partnership, offering
opportunities for staff and students to travel to different European countries,
sharing good practice and making friends. Montacute School is also a National
Support School and is available for leadership support locally and nationally.
